Clear Aligner Course

Provides theoretical and practical training in clear aligner therapy, including case selection, digital planning, biomechanics, and integration into orthodontic practice.

What You Will Learn

The Clear Aligner Course introduces trainees to the scientific and practical principles of treatment with clear aligners and how this modality can be integrated properly into modern orthodontic practice.
This course focuses on understanding the real capabilities and limitations of aligner therapy, selecting suitable cases, and building accurate treatment plans based on sound diagnosis and controlled tooth movement.

During this course, you will learn how to:

  • Understand the core principles of treatment with clear aligners and their role in modern orthodontics
  • Identify which cases are suitable and which are less suitable for clear aligner therapy
  • Understand the differences between aligner treatment and fixed appliance therapy in terms of possibilities and limitations
  • Assess orthodontic cases properly before selecting aligners as a treatment option
  • Build structured treatment plans for aligner cases based on diagnosis and record analysis
  • Understand how tooth movement is designed and staged throughout the course of treatment
  • Explore the role of attachments, staging, IPR, auxiliaries, and refinement protocols in improving outcomes
  • Understand the factors that influence treatment predictability and movement accuracy with aligners
  • Recognise common challenges during treatment, including tracking loss, compliance issues, and the need for refinements
  • Understand the importance of patient compliance and how to manage aligner cases clinically and communicatively
  • Integrate the biomechanics of aligner therapy into diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up
  • Develop the ability to assess treatment progress, modify plans when needed, and understand the realistic boundaries of aligner treatment

This course does not present clear aligners as a simple cosmetic solution. It presents them as an important scientific and technical part of modern orthodontic care that requires accurate diagnosis, thoughtful planning, and structured follow-up. It helps trainees understand clear aligner orthodontics more professionally within the British Fellowship in Orthodontics (FOrth) pathway.

Course Objectives

The Clear Aligner Course is designed to provide trainees with a clear scientific and practical understanding of treatment using clear aligners. It aims to help them evaluate suitable cases, understand the limits of aligner therapy, and build more accurate and realistic treatment plans based on proper orthodontic principles.

The main objectives of this course are to:

  • Introduce trainees to the essential concepts of clear aligner treatment in modern orthodontic practice
  • Build a clear understanding of the indications, limitations, and clinical scope of aligner therapy
  • Develop the ability to select appropriate cases based on diagnosis and case complexity
  • Train participants to construct accurate treatment plans for aligner-based orthodontic cases
  • Explain the fundamentals of tooth movement staging and treatment sequencing with aligners
  • Clarify the role of attachments, IPR, staging, and refinements in achieving better outcomes
  • Help trainees understand the factors associated with success and failure in clear aligner therapy
  • Strengthen the ability to monitor cases, evaluate progress, and make adjustments when needed
  • Connect aligner treatment to core principles of orthodontic biomechanics and sound clinical reasoning
  • Prepare trainees to approach aligner therapy with greater professionalism and realism rather than simplified marketing assumptions
  • Support professional development in modern orthodontic treatment through a deeper understanding of clear aligner systems

This course helps clinicians view clear aligners not merely as an aesthetic option, but as a treatment modality that demands careful orthodontic judgment, structured planning, and disciplined execution.
